9/5/2024 Fishing Report

The coho fishing has remain quite good this week.  Location is definitely a factor in the overall success of your day out.  Sheep Creek has far and away been the most consistent spot, with the rest of Thane Road being a close second.  Out towards Fish Creek there still hasn't been much activity.  There are fish here and there, but the consistency has not materialized yet.

Chartreuse flies have still been working, but as we get later into the run changing up the color can help you get bites.  Pink/white and pink/purple are excellent choices for when the fish don't want green.  If neither of those color schemes have been working, then we recommend trying dark colors.  Combinations of black, blues, res and purples can all be great sleeper colors.

The forecast is for a bit of rain tonight into tomorrow and then the freshwater level should begin to drop.  There are likely going to be less salmon in the rivers are this most recent flood so beads may no longer be your best bet for Dollies and trout.  AK Clousers in size 6 can work very well late in the season.  Dollies generally aren't as big of flesh eaters as trout, but small flesh patterns can also work here and there.  The Dredge Lakes area is a great spot to fish in the fall as the Dollies and cutthroat trout head back to their over wintering lakes in the fall.

As always, we love featuring your photos for our fishing reports.  If you have a great fish, scenery, or action photo that has to do with fishing around town send it our way!  You can email photos or videos to cory@alaskaflyfishinggoods.com.  Please remember to handle fish with care, especially if you are practicing catch and release.  Consider getting a net with a rubber basket to help land fish quickly, pinch your barbs and keep them in the water until you are ready to snap a quick photo.

See you on the water!
